The Illinois Higher Education Commission (1955-1957) was created to investigate state higher educational overcrowding and rapid growth. When the commission's appropriation ran out (1957), the General Assembly created the Illinois Commission of Higher Education (1957-1961) to study higher education needs and make legislative recommendations.
